A computer is one of the wonder devices made by human being. It is an electronic device that accepts input,processess them and returns output as useful information. A computer is capable of storing input i.e .data as well as output i.e information for current and future uses. One can perform large amount of processing task in computer accurately and fast. A computer can be used for many different tasks.People in different fields are using computer for doing a variety of tasks like word processing tasks, database task, and financial task.Since it is capable of doing versatile works,it does all the tasks according to instructions given to it by the usee.The set of instructions that performs a task in a computer is known as a program.
FEATURES OF COMPUTERS:
a) Speed
Computer is the fast data processing device . It can process thousands of millions of data within a fraction of second. Since the computer works on electronic signal,iy processes the data at the speed of light . The weather forecasting that you see every day on TV is the results of compilation and analysis of a huge amount of data on temperature,humidity,pressure etc. if various places oncomputers. It takes few minutes for the computer to process this huge amount of data and give the result.
b)Accuracy Although computer works at a very high speed , it does not make any mistake in data processing. That means computer is 100% accurate. Errors can occur in a computer but these errors are due to inaccurate data or bugs(malfunctioning of computer hardware and incorrect programs). That means if you input wrong data in a computer than the result produced by the computer is also wrong.
c)Data storage Computer can store a huge amount of data ,information or programs in its memory device-i)RAM (to hold temporarily) and ii)secondary storage devices like floppy disk,hard disk,optical disk etc .The data,information can be retained in secondary devices as long as desired by the user and can be recalled as and when required.The memory size of computer is expressed in Bytes.A byte is the amount of storage needed to store one character. The different terms used to express the memory capicity are KB(Kilobyte) ,MB(Megabyte),GB (Gigabyte) and TB(Terabyte).
d)Automatic A computer can perform a task only when it gets correct informations.once you give instructions to the computer to perform tasks ,it carries out task automatically as instructions . But you have to remember that it can't do tasks automaticlly on its own way. It can only perform a task when it is given a correct instructions.
Limitation of computer People think computet can do any tasks but i is not true.Whatever yasks computer does those allit does according tovinatructions.Computer can't do any tasks on its own. It needs instructions to perform tasks.
