Koch Tajpuriya living in Nepal

Tajpuriya are an indigenous (known as adhibashi) peoples living in the southern part of Terai (jhapa, morang districts of nepal ), the eastern part of Nepal. There are also Tajpuriya in Bihar, Bangal, Sikkim, Darjeeling and various other parts in India. In Jhapa they are scattered in Chak chaki, Gauradah, Dharampur, Gauriganj, Panchgachhi, Mahavara, , Jurupani, Korubari, Kohavara, Maharani and Lakhanpur and In Morang they are found in Sijua, Mahadewa, Govindpur, Jhurkia, and Rangeli.The main occupation of these people are agriculture and some of do differnt services in different services.They have their own religious culture like the Hindu culture. They like to be called Hindus.These people ( Tajpuriya) have their own lifestyle, language, culture, customs , rituals and traditions. They follow the tradition of their ancestors, worshiping three gods and goddesses: Thakur (Male) and Barmani (Female) who are representations of Shiva and Parvati, his wife .They have different art of living. They are animists ,love animals and nature worshippers. They worship to Gram Puja and worship to their ancestors in a group or within their family members. These people generally are found to live in community of rajbanshi and also different community. Inspite of having their own language most of them are also found to use rajbanshi language & othera too. These worships are compulsorily performed even during marriage or any other ritual ceremonies. Tajpuriya women mostly do not pierce their nose and do not wear any ornaments on their nose. At the wedding the bride wears a special dress made of cotton. It is a 16-foot long sari. The groom wears a Dhoti and Ganji made of cotton. According to last National census of Nepal published on 2067 B.s (National census 2011 AD ) the population of Tajpuriya in nepal is 18,811and plus.......

Tajpuriya Language:

Tajpuriya have their own mother tongue/ language which is known as Tajpuriya language but they also speaks Rajbanshi language in general. They have their own language called Tajpuri which is closely related to Rajbansi and Gangai.Their houses are made of mud and bamboo. These are all built in close proximity as a community.According to latest National census of Nepal published on 2067 B.s (national Census 2011), of their total population 18,811, only about 9,095 Tajpuriya speak their mother tongue/language which is tajpuriya language.Most of the tajpuriya live in rajbanshi society or different and speak their languages.They observe Siruwa pabni/ Parva and other festivals too. Women are highly respected in Tajpurian society. There is no specific social discrimination among Tajpuriyas compared to other community.
